2014 Chevy SS For Those Still Pining For G8 GXP

While the 2014 Chevrolet SS reveal comes as little surprise, especially after its kissing cousin Holden VF Commodore SSV was unwrapped earlier this week (and SS Nascar a few months ago), what is surprising however, is that its 415 horsepower 6.3-liter LS3 V8 will come equipped only in slush box form. No third pedal here folks, at least not now.

Grunt is provided by a 415 hp / 415 lb.-ft. LS3 good for 0–60 in about 5 seconds. Not bad at all. Mash the left pedal and massive four-piston Brembos grab hold of 350mm 2-piece ventilated rotors. With near 50/50 balance, the RWD 2014 SS should be a quick boulevard cruiser, but don’t expect to go carve canyons or tame dragons in this meathead from down under.

A semi-agro, quasi race-inspired front and rear fascia adorn a mid section taken directly from the now long defunct Pontiac G8 GXP. The interior is where the biggest changes take place. A newly sculpted cockpit wraps driver and passenger in premium materials, while a flat-bottomed wheel and bolstered buckets play into the performance mindset the SS is after.

Admittedly, the skilled folks at GM Design did a fantastic job updating the short wheelbase Zeta platform into something a bit more competitive.
